What is luxury vinyl plank flooring?
Currently, wood floors are trending, and that's expected to last at least 15 years, so, by extension, wood-look flooring is also trending. Vinyl plank (sometimes just called LVP) is ideal when you want a wood floor in a wet area like the bathroom, kitchen, or laundry room. This product is so realistic sometimes even the flooring professionals can't tell the difference between that and genuine wood. Still, you will undoubtedly know because you won't pay nearly the same price.
What is LVP?
The simple answer is to say this is a form of luxury vinyl flooring (LVF) where the material is cut into long, narrow strips and mounted on boards to mimic hardwood. The construction, however, makes it different from standard vinyl; this is a multi-ply product that features four layers, making it five times thicker than the original one. Instead of being rolled onto a surface, this has a clicking mechanism where the pieces snap together, mat, and then hover over a clean, dry and level subfloor.

What is luxury vinyl?
It is a stylish, affordable, 100% waterproof, and durable product. It offers true-to-life photos of wood, stone, and tile taken with 3D photography and available in countless colors and patterns with images inspired by nature. Micro beveling and embossing add depth, dimension, and textured looks, such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed. It can also be cut into groutable squares (called luxury vinyl tile) to echo stone and tile. It follows all the trends so that you can get gray and whitewashed wood looks; marble, granite, or slate surfaces or tile-sized pieces with colorful geometrics or encaustic style patterns.
All forms are 100% waterproof, whether submerged (as in an appliance flood) or spilled on. As for durability, one of the layers is a top, clear melamine coating to protect the floor from scratches and scuffs. Wear layers have a separate measurement and, for heavily trafficked floors, you'll want the most robust possible, at least 20-mils.
All LVF is easy to clean with regular sweeping and periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Please avoid waxy-shine-promoting substances as they can damage the finish and dull the floor; if you feel you need more shine, seek the advice of your flooring expert. Whether planks or squares, they can be installed as a floating floor.
